It is a cutting-edge Research & Development laboratory where, guided by the principles of sustainability, technological innovation and digitalization, ACMA is exploring a new way of conceiving packaging and machines.

Ready for the future: discovering ACMA Next

Innovation Beyond Tradition

For a century, ACMA has been synonymous with innovation in packaging technologies, continuously evolving to meet the needs of diverse industries. From early breakthroughs in packaging machinery to patented solutions that enhanced product efficiency and protection, the company has maintained a strong commitment to excellence.

Always prioritizing the importance of quality, ACMA Next represents a new era for the company. As an in-house Research & Development hub, ACMA Next goes beyond the traditional concept of a laboratory: it is an incubator of ideas that transforms visions into tangible realities - the lab embodies ACMA's mission to explore new frontiers in sustainability, technological innovation and digitalization, transforming these three pillars into actionable, cutting-edge solutions.

Roberto Lattarulo, ACMA Marketing Manager, emphasizes this shift: “ACMA Next was born to satisfy our customers’ next needs. It is an R&D laboratory where experiments take place on what is still unknown. This can involve the study of new materials and technologies or stress tests. We needed to provide R&D with an adequate space: by creating ACMA Next, we have given this way of working and thinking a physical space in the workshop”.

Pioneering Sustainable Packaging Solutions

A cornerstone of ACMA Next is the Sustainability Lab, a dedicated project focused on testing new materials and ensuring that ACMA’s machines can be adapted to handle them effectively. In collaboration with the Coesia Engineering Centre (CEC), ACMA explores how its customers can incorporate sustainable materials into their packaging processes, minimizing costs by upgrading existing machines instead of purchasing new ones. This enables customers to align with environmentally responsible practices while maintaining efficiency.

One of the innovations from the Sustainability Lab is the Material Gate, a patented unit designed to test the performance of new materials for the wrapping confectionery applications, in particular for twisting styles. This technology makes ACMA a valuable partner for material suppliers and product makers in understanding, defining and fine-tuning new materials for the confectionery industry, to be able to match the new market needs of sustainability.

Unlocking Potential: The Power of Technological Innovation

By continuously exploring emerging technologies and refining existing processes, ACMA Next is dedicated to revolutionizing machine design, efficiency, and functionality. This focus on technological innovation enables ACMA to deliver smarter, cost-effective and more adaptable solutions that not only meet the demands of today, but also anticipate the needs of tomorrow's markets. Through innovative machine designs and intelligent systems, ACMA Next empowers businesses to enhance productivity, streamline workflows and maximize efficiency, driving long-term value and competitiveness in an evolving industry.

ACMA Next’s close collaboration with the Coesia Engineering Centre (CEC) is essential to its success. The daily exchange of expertise between the two organizations fosters a continuous flow of innovative ideas, particularly in packaging materials and machine design. "The relationship with Coesia is also crucial for ACMA Next. The Coesia Engineering Center (CEC) is staffed with highly specialized experts in materials, wrapping, and machine design. Our team is in daily contact with the CEC, exchanging ideas even in machine development” explains Francesco Consorti, R&D Supervisor at ACMA.

Shaping the Future through Digitalization

ACMA Next’s forward-thinking strategy also centers around the principle of digitalization, which guides the lab in every project from concept to implementation.

By harnessing the potential of digital tools, ACMA Next enables more precise monitoring and upgrades to existing machines, optimizing both performance and environmental impact. This proactive approach ensures that ACMA is not only meeting today’s demands but is also preparing for future challenges in packaging technology.

Looking ahead, ACMA Next is set to broaden its research capabilities, delving into new frontiers of material science and machine development, always ensuring that ACMA stays ahead of industry trends.
